Chapter 1
"Why do you wish to stand before a Mighty Queen. A Queen so powerful that she could wipe any city off the face of this land?" asked a woman who was hidden by shadow, her voice commanding & strong
"I must speak to this Queen you speak of, for she requested me to see her," replied another person, this time a man with a scratchy voice, also hidden in shadow. He sounded confident.
"Very well, proceed," said the other voice in a bored way. There were some sounds of some one walking on a tile floor in a large corridor. Then there was a sound of a door opening & closing.
"You have come at long last. I have waited for your arrival for days now. Please tell me of you journey, Todd." said a new voice, full of commanding power.
"Ah alas my Queen, it was a difficult journey. It would take hours to fully explain it, but we do not have the time to chat. We must get to business. Would you mind telling me why I have been called to see you," the man named Todd replied.
"You know of why you are called to be here. Why do you question the me, Queen Vanact? You have the power to read the minds of others, do you not." Queen Vanact said angrily.
" I am simply making conversation," replied Todd. "Certainly you can understand that."
"Have you found these people yet, Todd? I have waited months for this information. shurly you have found some people to do this job well enough." said Queen Vanact eagerly.
"I have. They live in a town called North Bend. The people should be contacted & sent over in a matter of days. Not too long if you have been waiting for months, right," said Todd with a chuckle.
A new voice appeared" Hilary, Hilary, wake up," it said gently. All of a sudden it wasn't so gentle. "Hilary Benson, WAKE UP!"
Hilary woke up with a start. For a second she couldn't remember where she was. She looked around. Now she remembered, it was Thursday, and she was at the worst place to be in the whole wide world, School. She looked out the window. The sky was baby blue, without a cloud in the sky. Why did she have to be stuck indoors on this Beautiful spring day?
"As I was saying, Hilary, we will now be studying the geography of the United States. This will definitely be tested, so I suggest you take notes," Her sixth grade teacher said. And with that she turned to the black board. Her teacher's gray flyaway hair was held back in a bun, & as always, was wearing a blue T-shirt and black dress paints today. She often times was strict, but didn't mean to be, she just was.
"Do you think she will let us out early," Hillary’s Best friend Jenny Platie whispered from her left.
"Mrs. Johnson? Not in a million years," Hilary replied back. Running her fingers through her auburn hair. Her light brown eyes on the black board pretending to be listening. Her friend Jenny, who had dirty blond hair with bright blue eyes to match, nodded & turned to the black board like Hilary. For the rest of the class they jotted down notes, trying really hard not to fall asleep. Finally the bell rang its gloriously loud ear splitting ring.
"Hey you guys, how was social studies?" Asked Hillary’s other friend; Jack Terence whose ideal job was to become a rocket scientist. He always stood out in the crowed, not only was he almost 6 feet tall in 6th grade, but he was on the Basketball team. His hair was orange, and had green eyes.
"Boring, as usual, how was science?" Jenny replied.
"It was so cool. Today we did some experiments with rocket ships!"
"No fair, we're learning about the geography of the U.S.,” said Hilary.
"It could be worse," Jack said. Hilary had to agree. The worst thing they studied in Social Studies was the history about their town, North Bend, Wisconsin.
They walked out side, and the breeze rushed over them. Suddenly Hillary’s blood turned cold. There surrounded by his friends, was Trent Kindary. Hilary had a crush on him for as long as she had known him. He had Short blonde hair, a few freckles, and bright blue eyes. He was captain of the Basketball team. Every girl liked him, but Hilary liked him more.
"Well, see you later, Jack," Jenny said casually as she and Hilary walked to Walker St. which was toward their houses. As they walked someone appeared, a very strange someone. This person was a short man, and he was wearing a robe. Not an ordinary bathrobe people wear after a bath or a shower, but the kind you imagine wizards wearing. He was wearing a pointed hat; this too was what you would expect a wizard to be wearing. Hilary thought about all this. As she signaled for Jenny to follow her & to take a closer look, he was gone.
"What were you looking at," Jenny said questionably, as they walked further toward their houses. They could not know at this moment that the person Hilary saw was to be one of the most important people in their adventure.
"I thought I saw some one strange," said Hilary unsure weather she really saw what she thought she saw. They kept walking. Hilary was trying to make sense of what she saw, but the more she thought, the more she became confused. I wish I knew what happened she thought angrily. Oh well, I need to get home so I can finish my homework. At the very thought of homework brought her back to her senses. Jenny interrupted her thoughts.
"See ya tomorrow, Hilary."
"See ya," Hilary replied. She walked to her ordinary house, with its wooden siding and black roof. She knew what would happen once she was inside her safe comfortable house, so she walked around out side, wondering whom, or what she had seen. Only too soon did she feel she had to go inside. She opened the door and...
"Sissy's home, hurry, hurry," called one of her sisters.
"Yay!" all her sisters shouted, as they ran downstairs to greet her.
"Hi Breanna, Stacy, Cara, Tammy, and Ashley," Hilary replied to their greeting. "I have homework right now, ok."
"Ohh," the girls said in disappointment.
"Don't worry. As soon as I'm finished, I'll come right down, Ok," said Hilary hastily, as not to upset her sisters. Every time she let them down, she somehow got in trouble.
"Promise?" the girls, said, their voices perking up.
"Promise."
"Ya!" they shouted, and ran around the house, again. They always seem so happy. How can they stay that way so long? The answer came to her so easily that she couldn't believe she asked the Question. They are still younger. She went to do her homework, but not willingly. She really didn't want to do the report on the history of the USA
